THE MORNING NEWS WITH BRUCE KENYON

Canadians are responsible for some of our greatest inventions ? the telephone, the green garbage bag, the zipper, ginger ale, but what are some of the more bizarre inventions? That trip to London is advertised as costing you a mere $498 return, but how much is it really going to cost you? Why aren?t there regulations in place to force truth in advertising when it comes to travel agencies and airlines? The Insurance Bureau of Canada has launched a campaign designed to help Canadians ensure they have the coverage they need and make it easier to file a claim for damages and losses. Calgary Author John Gilchrist knows the best places to find quality cheap eats. He joins us this morning to discuss his latest guide to restaurants in Calgary and beyond.

CALGARY TODAY WITH MIKE BLANCHARD

We?ll look at the issue of mental illness and its effects on our city. We will look at a situation that occurred a few weeks ago involving a CHQR producer and a woman police declared ?mentally unstable.? We?ll also speak with the Canadian Mental Health Association on the cutbacks over the years and the results on our city. We?ll also look at the stereotypes surrounding mental illness ? the majority of people who are violent do not suffer from mental illnesses. The Canadian Medical Association has launched a new website to get citizens involved in the protest for the federal government to do more on the doctor shortage. The CMA says the average age of Canada?s physicians is 50 and between 4 and 5 million Canadians do not have a family physician. How has reaction been towards this new site so far?   Ruth Myles gives us the best on DVD in the weekly DVD Thursday segment.
